 Students from across New York can join the statewide network and stay informed about upcoming educational opportunities, surveys, projects, and student activities. 

 Make your voice part of the conversation. Practice civic participation and make their voices heard. Express support for legislation, raise concerns, ask questions, recommend changes, or communicate another informed perspective. 

A sample student letter is provided below as a starting point. Students are encouraged to personalize the letter and express their own views rather than simply copying it.

Visit Change.org to sign a petition supporting this effort to  petition to urge our lawmakers to introduce and adopt Extended Producer Responsibility legislation, securing a cleaner, more sustainable future for New York State.

After multiple attempts to enact legilation, it has continued to fail, see information on the legislative session.

As of late 2025, seven U.S. states have enacted comprehensive Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws for packaging, aimed at reducing waste and shifting management costs to producers: California, Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, and Washington.

While the bill formally passed in the Senate in 2024, time ran out before the Assembly could bring it to a vote.
