NY Students for Responsible Packaging
Students Learning. Students Leading. Students Making a Difference.
New York Students for Responsible Packaging is a statewide, student-led initiative created to give New York students a meaningful opportunity to learn about packaging waste, recycling, sustainability, and environmental policy—and to become active participants in conversations about the future of their communities.
Founded by high school student Magnus Arroyo, the initiative connects students who are interested in understanding environmental challenges and exploring how public policy, innovation, and individual action can help address them.
Why Students?
Packaging is part of everyday life, but what happens to packaging after we throw it away is often out of sight and out of mind. Questions about recycling, waste management, product design, and producer responsibility increasingly involve decisions made by businesses, communities, and policymakers.
Students have an important role in these conversations.
New York Students for Responsible Packaging provides a place for students to learn about these issues, ask questions, share perspectives, conduct research, and participate in civic and educational activities.
Our goal is not to tell students what to think. Our goal is to help students learn how to think critically about environmental policy and become informed members of their communities.
At Your School
For Environmental Clubs & Student Leaders
Environmental Clubs can become partners in the New York Students for Responsible Packaging network.
Club leaders and advisors can:
- Introduce students to EPR Footprint.
- Share student educational resources.
- Encourage students to participate in the statewide survey.
- Host an EPR or packaging discussion.
- Develop a school-based packaging or recycling project.
- Connect interested students with the statewide network.
- Encourage students to explore environmental policy from multiple perspectives.
We welcome students and schools with different experiences and perspectives. Participation does not require taking a particular position on EPR or any piece of legislation.

New York Students for Responsible Packaging is built around a simple idea:
Young people should have the opportunity to understand the environmental issues that affect their communities and the knowledge to participate thoughtfully in addressing them.
Whether you want to conduct research, learn about government, organize a school project, participate in a survey, connect with other students, or simply understand where your recycling goes after you put it in the bin, there is a place for you here.
