As of late 2025, seven U.S. states have enacted comprehensive Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws for packaging, aimed at reducing waste and shifting management costs to producers: California, Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, and Washington.

At the World Economic Forun in Davos, Switzerland, there was a push to advnace EPR globally. It is essential that the US take the lead.
